WEST PARIS – Meeting with selectmen Thursday Janet Fournier, a library trustee, said expansion plans are moving ahead.

Fournier said there have been meetings with Dick Reed of Reed and Co. Architects of Portland, which has produced preliminary plans and established a project cost estimate.

Reed’s preliminary drawings embrace the historic appearance of the castle-like library building, she said. His project cost estimate of $361,000 is about $200,000 less than an estimate made in 2003.

Fournier said she and her colleagues are also pleased with the support selectmen have shown for their work.

“Your support will be a major help for us when we begin applying for grant money, that we will be doing soon,” said Fournier. “Without your support it would be very difficult to get money for the project through the grant process as most organizations require support from town officials when the project is a community project.”

Fournier praised children from the Agnes Gray School who have been donating pennies and have already given $25. Also she spoke of work by the Friends of the West Paris Library who have several fundraising events planned.
