1. LSU 7-1 (Last week: 1)

Clearly, the Tigers must whip their old coach this week if they want to keep a leg up over the unbeaten.

2. Ohio State 9-0 (Last week: 2)

The longer this winning streak continues, the more difficult the Buckeyes are becoming to deal with.

3. Oklahoma 7-1 (3)

Schedule is soft straight through the Big 12 Championship.

4. Oregon 7-1 (6)

Tough to figure if a close win at home over USC is really that big a deal.

5. Boston College 8-0 (5)

Feel free to chant in my general direction, BC fans: Scorrrrre-board!

6. West Virginia 7-1 (8)

Mountaineers don’t have the overall talent of the top five but I’d hate trying to defend that QB.

7. Arizona State 8-0 (9)

Showed their mettle with a double-digit comeback against Cal.

8. Kansas 8-0 (14)

I take it back. They’re pretty good.

9. Georgia 6-2 (18)

Forget a national championship tournament. I’d pay to watch an SEC tournament.

10. Missouri 7-1 (17)

Haven’t been this high in any non-basketball poll in my lifetime, as best I can remember.

11. Texas 7-2; 12. Virginia Tech 6-1; 13. Auburn 5-3; 14. Michigan 7-2; 15. Southern Cal 6-2; 16. Alabama 6-2; 17. Florida 5-3; 18. Connecticut 7-1; 19. Wake Forest 6-2; 20. Hawaii 8-0; 21. South Florida 6-2; 22. South Carolina 6-3; 23. Boise State 7-1; 24. Clemson 6-2; 25. California 5-3.

Dropping out of Top 25: Penn State, Virginia, Kentucky.
