Cheerleaders raise funds for diabetes

LEWISTON – Fortier Family Cheer Center, home of the Planet Cheer All Star Cheerleaders, participated in the American Diabetes Association annual walkathon, Step Out to Fight Diabetes.

Planet Cheer members were among more than a hundred walkers who gathered at Capitol Park in Augusta on Oct. 14. Planet Cheer participated in the opening ceremonies through a performance and led the warm-up and stretching exercises.

Susan Fortier, staff member, was a speaker at the event, addressing the crowd with a speech based on her personal experience of raising a child diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at age 3.

To date, Planet Cheer along with the Planet Cheer Parents Association, has raised more than $1,300 for the American Diabetes Association and will do so again at their appearance at the State Capitol Cheer Challenge at the Augusta Civic Center on Feb. 10.
