Dear Sun Spots: In your Oct. 23 column you had a reader by the name of Nona Ostrander who was inquiring about places that sold used baby items:
Nona has a phone number beginning with 375, this tells me she is from Sabattus or some place nearby.
You failed to mention Pipsqueaks Children’s Boutique, which is right in or near her hometown.
We offer gently used (as well as some new) children’s clothing, equipment, toys, furniture and accessories for children newborn to youth. We carefully hand-select items that are clean and up-to-date. These items are then cleaned and sold for a fraction of what they cost new.
We are on Route 126 (Sabattus Road) next to Dunkin’ Donuts and hours of operation are as follows: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Anyone with questions may contact Amy Duguay at 375-7100 or e-mail [email protected]. Thank you. – Amy Duguay, No Town.
Dear Sun Spots: This is my first time writing to you and want to thank you for the great service you provide.
I am interested in donating more than 100 hardcover craft books to someplace that does crafts with the elderly, handicapped and others in the L-A and Turner areas. I may be reached on my cell phone at 754-0113, or via e-mail at [email protected]. Thanks. – Anna Constantino, No Town.
Dear Sun Spots: Please find out the history of Rome, Maine. – No Name, No Town.
Answer: You might consider checking the local library. Rome neighbors Belgrade Lakes and you may reach the Belgrade Public Library at Belgrade Public Library, Belgrade recreation center, 495-3508. Sun Spots has learned that Rome, in Kennebec County and the Augusta-Waterville metro area was named for the city in Italy.
The population, at the time of the 2000 census, was 980. Sun Spots is hoping that others familiar with this town, and town residents themselves, will be willing to share some history and facts with you.
Dear Sun Spots: The Franco American Heritage Center at St. Mary’s is looking for old photos to borrow (or receive as a donation) of life at the turn of the previous century when many Franco Americans immigrated to the area.
We are working on a mural and photo display. Perhaps you have photos of Grandmémère or of family at the train depot on Lincoln Street. Or, perhaps you have photos of St. Mary’s or buildings or people in Little Canada.
We’d love to see your photos. Please contact Rita Dube, executive director, Franco American Heritage Center at St. Mary’s, 783-1585.
We are looking forward to hearing from all of you and sharing these wonderful photographs with the community. – Richard Martin, No Town.
Dear Sun Spots: I love your column.
I need help in getting patterns and 24 count punch cards for a knitting machine. If anyone has some, I will gladly make copies of the patterns. If anyone knows of a yarn store selling the punch cards, patterns, and also 3-ply cone yarn I would love to hear from you. I am Rachel D’Auteuil and may be reached at 946-5616 Thank You. – Rachel D’Auteuil, Greene.
Note: Readers hoping to have their requests published on time for craft fairs and other time-sensitive events, should submit items at least a week and a half in advance of the event.
