LIMINGTON (AP) – A 28-year-old man was hospitalized after being shot by a sheriff’s deputy, officials said Sunday.

York and Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies were called at about 11 p.m. Saturday to the River Road home of Alexander Ronfeldt, who told police his estranged son was trying to gain entry to his home with a rifle.

The son, Peter Ronfeldt, threatened a Cumberland County deputy, officials said. The deputy then fired his weapon, striking Ronfeldt twice.

Ronfeldt was taken to Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening wounds, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office. He faces charges of burglary and criminal threatening with a firearm.

The shooting is under investigation by the Maine Attorney General’s Office.
