It all started When my mom and dad just started to race. It was boring for me because the only thing I did was sit there and do nothing, I didn’t even know anyone. Then, the day came when I first saw a Jr. dragster go down the track. I was really amazed; it was like I was sucked into the whole race. I ran and told my parents,

“Look!! it’s a mini Dragster!”

My dad and mom looked and they said, “yea I know.”

The season was over and my mom and dad painted up their car. They even went on a web sight and I saw my dad write these few words.

“Does anyone know where I can find a Jr. dragster? I am looking for one for my 11 year old daughter.”

Then someone replied that Mike Peila had one that he was giving away. We went to Mike’s house and I saw it right there in the middle of his garage! My Jr. dragster. We said Hi to mike and I got to sit in my car for the first time in my life. I felt so happy that I didn’t want to get out. I felt like I belonged there in that car, but deep down inside I felt scared that something horrible would happen or might crash.

We left Mikes house and my dad asked me if I wanted to race and I said, “Yes.” I didn’t even think; it just rolled of my tongue.

When It got to my house, I got even more scared that this was going to be very scary. We got to the track and I didn’t talk because I was devastated.

It was my turn to run and I had to go for a license s which means, I would have to do certain things to prove that I could race and then I would get my license. My dad made me put on all my gear Every thing is fireproof so I wont get burnt there are restraints and a helmet and Just putting all that on made me very hot and tired. My dad pushed my to the staging lanes (which is were you line up for a race) and I had to sit there awhile to wait for the other cars. It was my turn to go and my dad said, “Brakes”, and he started the car. He guided me up to the lane and I was on my own. I was scared to death now and I didn’t know what to do. I staged in the top two bulbs and the three yellow lights flashed down and I was off!

“Wow,” I said to myself, “This is fun!” I let off and on the gas pedal like I am suppose to and I got used to it very fast. Since this was a license run, it really didn’t count as racing.

After my license runs, I got to do a real race. I went the full length and my gas pedal was all the way down. The wind was blowing in my face, the car picking up speed faster and faster. I did a perfect job as I was going down the return road, I felt that this was my sport and that I could do very well on it. It felt like my sport because I felt like I could really do good on this and that I could easily fit into the sport. When I go to the end my dad was there and he had a big grin on his face I knew that I did a perfect job and that my parents were really happy.

After a couple of races I won there was one big one that I lost because my car wasn’t the best it could be, but that all changed. When the year went by my dad got a new motor and gear for my car so it was better and faster (83 mph that is) and I became the points champion by far! I was so happy that I am going to try harder and harder to be the best that I can be. I love drag racing!

My family loves drag racing and we are looking for someone to sponsor the Jr. program and this could really make drag racing part of our future!
