NAPLES – The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department announced this week that it has arrested three people on drug charges after seizing more than 30 pounds of processed marijuana.
Richard “Dickey” B. Hudson, 42, of 75 Sand Road in Naples, and John P. Dana, 47, of 2201 Battleford Road in Columbia, S.C., were both charged with Class A aggravated trafficking in marijuana. Vickie LeBlanc, 40, of 527 Hatchery Road in Kingston, R.I., was also arrested and charged with Class C possession of methadone.
Cumberland Sheriff’s Capt. Don Goulet said his department was contacted by Waterville police Monday for assistance in finding Hudson in regards to a domestic assault. Goulet said the department had probable cause and was permitted to arrest Hudson without a warrant.
Deputies arrived at Hudson’s residence around 2 p.m. Monday, where they found Dana and questioned him. Goulet said details of the conversation could not be released due to the continuing investigation.
About 30 minutes after the deputies’ arrival, Hudson appeared. LeBlanc arrived in a taxi after 4 p.m.
Deputies discovered the marijuana at the residence and later served a search warrant. The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency also assisted in the search of the property, which Goulet said went on until 3 a.m. Tuesday.
Police seized 32 pounds of marijuana packed in one-pound baggies, more than $11,000 in cash, a 2003 Honda Accord, a Bombardier ATV, and drug paraphernalia including weights and scales.
Goulet said the car belonged to one of the three suspects and the ATV was in a trailer where marijuana was found. He said he was unaware of any drugs or paraphernalia in the vehicles.
“They’re directly connected to the marijuana distribution,” Goulet said.
Goulet said Hudson and Dana were charged with a Class A crime because the amount of marijuana seized exceeded 20 pounds. The maximum prison sentence for a Class A crime is 30 years, while the maximum prison sentence for a Class C crime is five years.
Hudson, Dana and LeBlanc were booked at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland. Hudson and LeBlanc were held on $50,000 cash bail, while LeBlanc was held on $1,000 cash bail. The three are scheduled to make their initial appearance in Superior Court in Portland today.
