When someone says that their favorite television program is The Oprah Winfrey Show, what do you think? Some would laugh and give a funny look, but when you really think about it, is it really that funny? After all, Oprah has changed the word in more ways than you know.
Oprah had a hard childhood and dealt with rape and sexual abuse, yet was still a very successful woman. Her past has lead her to prevent other people from going through what she did. When speaking, Oprah speaks truthfully and acts like she has known everybody all of her life. Once, in a beauty pageant, she was asked what she would do with a million dollars, she honestly answered, “I’d be a spending fool!” Her sincereness made her feel comfortable in front of audiences and gives her a style of speaking that everybody loves. Oprah showed determination to make it through her sad childhood, and will stop at nothing to make the world a better place. She also had an overeating disorder and made it through; and is now encouraging others to do the same. Oprah was also very motivated to inform people about success stories and important issues with her show.
In high school, Oprah was class president. Later on, she was a news reporter for many news stations including: CBS, ABC, Today, and Good Morning America. She was on A.M. Chicago for a while until it got turned into “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” Oprah used her show to entertain and educate people about achievements and important world issues. Oprah gave thousands of dollars to charities and started Oprah’s Angel Network. Oprah’s Angel Network encourages people to donate their hair to make wigs for cancer victims, collects suitcases so homeless people would not have to carry their stuff in garbage bags, baby sits for free at the YMCA so kids’ parents could take parenting classes, and fixing up playgrounds for toddlers. Her television show worked with Habitat for Humanity to build two-hundred and five houses! Oprah also raised money for poor teens to go to college and collected, $3,557,804. She helped victims of child abuse and counseled girls to stay in school and not get pregnant at a young age. Another thing Oprah did was visit Africa to give orphaned children toys and clothes. Also, she donated $500,000 to do a scholarship program for kids. Oprah also mentored teens to steer them in the right direction for their life.
