Park closing

GRAY – The Maine Wildlife Park will close for the season on Sunday, Nov. 11. Since it is Veteran’s Day, the park will recognize and thank all Maine military personnel and veterans for their service to the country by offering them a free adult admission to the park.

The park had a successful season, with record-breaking attendance and a variety of events scheduled throughout the summer. School programs and tours were conducted regularly for thousands of children and volunteers donated hundreds of hours.

The park’s wildlife over-winter outdoors the way they naturally would in the wild. However, park staff will create natural shelters and windbreaks for protection from extreme conditions. The park will reopen around April 15.

Deadline extended

AUGUSTA – The Maine Alliance for Arts Education and the Maine Community Foundation announce that they have extended the deadline for their second round of the Maine Arts Teachers Fellowships. The program supports personal artistic development of Maine K-12 teachers in all arts disciplines.

Through the program, theater, music, dance, visual art and creative writing teachers have the opportunity to study and collaborate with professional artists in their fields. The program enables arts teachers to delve into their own creative process, challenge themselves as artists and create new work.

The alliance anticipates awarding eight $5,000 fellowships for 2008. It will accept preliminary project proposals until Nov. 30. Application information is available at www.maineartseducation.org, or by contacting David Lamon at [email protected].
