LEWISTON – A U.S. Marine captain who has served two tours of duty in Iraq will speak about his experiences at Bates College Thursday.
Capt. Anthony King will speak at 6:30 p.m. in the Keck Classroom, Pettengill Hall. The event is sponsored by Maine College Republicans, who also will host King at Colby College in Waterville on Monday, at the University of Maine in Orono on Tuesday and at Bowdoin College in Brunswick next Thursday. The events are open to the public.
King’s appearances will serve as reminders of the sacrifices U.S. servicemen and women have made throughout history, “especially today in Iraq, Afghanistan and other fronts on the war on terror across the globe,” according to Nathaniel Walton, state chairman of the Maine College Republicans.
A graduate of Cape Elizabeth High High, King has served in the U.S. Marine Corps for nearly two decades. During his second tour of duty in Iraq, he was stationed in the highly dangerous Al Anbar province. King now serves as an officer-selection officer for northern New England.
