FREEPORT – Internationally known energy guru Arjun Makhijani will be the speaker at the Maine Chapter of the Sierra Club’s annual dinner at the Harraseeket Inn on Friday, Nov. 9.

His talk, “Carbon-Free and Nuclear-Free,” will focus on his recently released master plan outlining how America can reduce its carbon emissions by 90-plus percent by 2050 through conservation and alternative energy technology – and without the use of nuclear power.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a reception, social hour and silent auction. Dinner will be served at 7.

Sierra Club Maine award presentations will be made to several individuals who have worked to improve Maine’s environment.

Among the award recipients with be Jim Wellehan of Lamey-Wellehan Stores. Wellehan has worked closely with Maine Partners for Cool Communities in every town where there is a Lamey-Wellehan store. He was also instrumental in getting the Auburn City Council to the U.S. Mayors Climate Change Protection Agreement.

The annual dinner is open to the public. The cost for the event is $25 a person. Call 761-5616 for reservations.
