Jeremy Hamel has been initiated into Endicott College’s Mortar Board, the national honor society for students in their senior year. Hamel is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Hamel of Industry and is majoring in computer science at the Beverly, Mass., college.

Mortar Board was founded in 1918 and recognizes students during their senior year for their achievements in scholarship, leadership and service. Members are selected by their peers. The society provides opportunities for continued leadership development, promotes service to colleges and encourages lifelong contributions to the global community.

To qualify, seniors must be ranked in the upper 35 percent of their class and have demonstrated a record of service and leadership. Currently, there are 210 chapters of Mortar Board at colleges across the country.
