WEST PARIS – The Little Castle Library is officially kicking off its expansion fundraising campaign with “Let Your Light Shine.”
Residents can help the little stone castle, also known as the West Paris Public Library, light up the dark winter nights.
The Friends of the West Paris Library invite residents and businesses to donate in memory of a loved one or to honor someone special with lights in the front of the castle. The Friends will record in a “Our Lights are Shining” book the names of those honored.
The requested donation is $5, which will turn on five lights.
Children through middle school age will be able to honor a friend or loved one for $1 for one light. A $100 donation will light up an entire strand of 150 lights.
Starting Dec. 10, the lights illuminated by the donations received to that date will be turned on. As more donations come in, more lights will be turned on until the “Little Castle” is bedecked.
The project is the kick-off fundraising event for the new addition to the “Little Castle with a Big Heart” campaign. The addition has been designed by Reed and Co. Architecture, a Portland firm specializing in working with historical buildings and library projects.
The addition will extend behind the current building, allowing the stonework, old fashioned casement windows and arched oak door to remain.
Donations for the Let Your Light Shine project, along with the name of the person to be honored or remembered, should be brought or sent to the West Paris Public Library, 226 Main St., P.O. Box 307, West Paris, ME 04289. Include name, address and telephone number.
For additional information, call the library at 674-2004. It is open on Monday and Friday from 1:30 to 6 p.m., Wednesday from 1:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
