Lots to Gardens to celebrate harvest

LEWISTON – Hearty homegrown foods, songs and fiddle tunes will be on the menu for a festive Fall Harvest Soup and Music Night on Friday, Nov. 30, in Callahan Hall at Lewiston Public Library.

The collaborative community event is being produced by the staff of Lots to Gardens, a program of Sisters of Charity Health System, as a way of celebrating the burgeoning bounty of both food and talent to be found in the local area.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a supper featuring a selection of soups and chowders made from vegetables harvested from the dozen or so community gardens established and overseen by Lots to Gardens.

Rounding out the repast will be fresh bread from local bakeries, cheese and cider from area farms and special autumn-theme desserts created by members of Lots to Gardens’ Teen Cooking Club.

Once the tables are cleared, attendees will be treated to a two-hour showcase of traditional and original acoustic music by a variety of local musicians.

Admission will be $7, with proceeds earmarked to support Lots to Gardens’ ongoing educational programs. An announcement of the complete menu and musical program will be forthcoming soon, according to organizers. In the interim, those seeking more information may contact Cindy Larock at the Lewiston Public Library, 513-3050.

Founded in 1999, Lots to Gardens is a nonprofit organization committed to nurturing a healthy community by using sustainable urban agriculture to create greater access to fresh food for Lewiston residents.
