AUBURN – This holiday season, Super Shoes is asking customers, family and friends to donate new or gently worn footwear to Soles for Souls. They hope to impact as many lives as possible with the gift of shoes.

Soles for Souls is partnering with charities and governments around the world to provide a basic gift that most take for granted.

Proposals sought

AUGUSTA – The Maine Alliance for Arts Education and the Maine Community Foundation have announced that the deadline for accepting preliminary proposals for the Maine Arts Teachers Fellowship Program is Friday, Nov. 30.

The program supports personal artistic development of Maine kindergarten to grade 12 teachers in all arts disciplines. Through the fellowship, theater, music, dance, visual art and creative writing teachers have the opportunity to study and collaborate with professional artists in their fields.

Daylily meeting

CAMDEN – The Maine Daylily Society is hold its annual holiday potluck and presentation at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Camden Public Library.

The program will be “Garden Highlights of the 2007 American Hemerocallis Society’s National Convention.” Dottie Hokkanen, Laura Evans and Susan Shaw traveled to Minneapolis to see the gardens last summer.

Arts awards

AUGUSTA – The Maine Alliance for Arts Education is requesting nominations of outstanding individuals and schools for three arts education awards.

The awards acknowledge high-level work and commitment in support of quality arts education programs for children.

Nominations for the Outstanding Advocate for Arts Education Award and the Bill Bonyan Artist/Educator Award must be postmarked by Jan. 10, 2008. Nominations for the Creative Ticket School of Excellence Award must be postmarked Jan. 15, 2008.

Seek volunteers

ASSE International Student Exchange Programs is looking for volunteers to serve as area representatives in local communities.

ASSE provides academic year, semester and short-term exchange programs in the United States for high school age students from around the world. Students are age 15 to 18, have passed a series of academic and character requirements and are awaiting an opportunity to embark on their American adventure.

Area representatives recruit and screen prospective host families, interview students to study abroad and supervise the visiting exchange students in their community. They are reimbursed for expenses and are provided with some travel opportunities.

Grants available

AUGUSTA – The Maine Arts Commission is accepting applications for two grant programs, both of which were created to strengthen communities across the state and preserve their traditions.

Dec. 14 is the application deadline for the Capacity Building in Maine’s Cultural Communities Program and the Sustaining Traditional Arts in the Community Program.
