Dear Sun Spots: Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice is inviting organizations, groups and individuals to create holiday centerpieces for our silent auction at our Home for the Holidays celebration Dec. 8 at Poland Spring Preservation Park. The only request is centerpieces have live greens and that you are able to deliver to our agency office in Lewiston by Dec. 7. Please contact Teri Blaschke, AHCH Development Coordinator at 795-9428 FMI. We will look forward to hearing from you. – Teri Blaschke, Lewiston.
Dear Sun Spots: Maybe one of your readers might know where I could find an oven moat. These wonderful aluminum trays are placed under a pie or casserole to collect the runovers. The hole in the center allows the crust to brown and the fluted edges collect the juices. No more dirty oven! Hopefully your readers can assist here. – No Name, Wilton.
Answer: You might check the following to see if they might be able to assist you.
Sun Spots located several called pie splatter oven guards online at www.cooksdream.com or through Ultimate Baker, 4917 E. 2nd Ave., Spokane Valley, WA 99212, 866-285-2665, or www.kitchenhaven.com, 732-269-2560. You might also consider checking in with your local Bed Bath & Beyond store to see if they might be able to assist. You might also check with your local household and bakeware stores too. Another option is to use a cookie sheet under your pie.
Dear Sun Spots: I was wondering if you could please find out who sings the song “The Christmas Shoes?” Also, would you please find the lyrics to it and where I might be able to get this. Also, last year a female was singing an advertisement that included “I’ll be Home For The Holidays.” Can you please find out the words to that song too and who sings it? Thank you. – No Name, No Town.
Answer: Sun Spots loves – and I mean loves – the song you mention! It has often brought her close to tears. It’s beautifully done and so tender. It was recorded by NewSong.
You will find the lyrics to “I’ll Be Home For The Holidays” online www.metrolyrics.com/home-for-the-holidays-lyrics-destinys-child.html, by Destiny’s Child. They’re too lengthy to include here. Enjoy.
The Christmas Shoes
It was almost Christmas time, there I stood in another line
Tryin’ to buy that last gift or two, not really in the Christmas mood
Standing right in front of me was a little boy waiting anxiously
Pacing round like little boys do, and in his hands he held a pair of shoes
His clothes were worn and old
He was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldn’t believe what I heard him say
(Chorus)
Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my mama, please
It’s Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy said there’s not much time
You see, mom’s been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if mama meets Jesus tonight
He counted pennies for what seemed like years
Then the cashier said, “Son, there’s not enough here”
He searched his pockets frantically, then he turned and he looked at me
He said, “Mama always made Christmas good at our house,
Through most years she did without
Tell me, sir, what am I going to do,
Somehow, I’ve got to buy these Christmas shoes.”
I just had to help him out
And as I laid the money down
I’ll never forget the look on his face
When he said, “Mama’s gonna look so great.”
(Repeat Chorus)
I knew I’d caught a glimpse of heaven’s love as he thanked me and ran out
I knew that God had sent that little boy my way
To remind me just what Christmas is all about
(Repeat Chorus)
