LEXINGTON, Mass. (AP) – Police in Lexington say a Bowdoin College student was killed and two friends injured when the car they were traveling in struck a tree.

Nicholas Barnett, an 18-year-old freshman who graduated from Lexington High School in June, was pronounced dead at Lahey Clinic following the crash late Wednesday night on Woburn Street.

Police said in a statement that the crash remains under investigation, but that speed and wet roads appeared to be contributing factors.

Police did not say who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. The two other teens hurt in the crash are expected to recover.
