HANOVER – Voters will elect a selectman, town clerk and school committee member, as well as decide whether to approve a municipal budget that’s about 4 percent higher than this year’s figure, during the annual town meeting set for 7 p.m., Tuesday in the Townhouse on Howard Pond Road.
The proposed municipal budget of $185,505 is up from last year’s figure of $177,906.
Town Clerk Clem Worcester said some of the increase is due to a request to continue adding funds to a capital account that is expected to be used in a couple of years to replace the Second Bridge on Howard Pond Road.
Additional money is also requested to pay a code enforcement officer the town shares with Greenwood and Woodstock, for painting the town house, and to maintain roads and bridges. Many accounts remained flat from this year, including cemetery maintenance, solid waste removal, and ambulance services, while some accounts, such as insurance, appraisal, mapping and legal fees, declined.
The town’s share of Oxford County taxes rose slightly from $17,540 to $18,023.
Voters approved a $199,710 school budget in June.
On Tuesday, they will also elect several officials from the floor, including the selectman’s seat held by four-term veteran Bruce Powell, school committee member Dan Forth, and Worcester, who is town clerk, treasurer and tax collector.
If voters approve all municipal figures, the total budget for 2007-2008, including schools, will be $385,221, up from $378,379 for fiscal year 2006-2007.
The board’s regular selectmen’s meeting will follow the town meeting.
