LIVERMORE FALLS – It’s “Cinderella” but not the play that normally comes to mind.
This one is a musical set in Charmingville and has a twist of Dr. Seuss, including the town modeled after Whoville.
There are stepbrothers in addition to stepsisters, fairy godmothers in training and a car instead of a pumpkin for Cinderella’s ride to the prince’s ball.
Youngsters, teenagers and adults sported bright costumes in several designs including stripes, polka dots, flowers and solids rehearsed their lines, songs and steps Monday afternoon. Some actors have counterparts who will perform on another night.
The two-day performances will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, and Saturday, Dec. 1, on the Livermore Falls High School stage.
Eric Bernier of Livermore Falls, a Dixfield police officer and part-time Livermore Falls officer, is a town constable in the play.
“It’s my first time doing it,” he said of performing in the community play. “My kids have done it for a couple of years, and I wanted to join them.”
On stage, Cinderella, played by Victoria Flagg, tried to appease stepsisters, Joy, played by Michelle Morlock, and Portia, played by Chantelle Davis, and stepmother, portrayed by Kathy Wilcox.
Nicole Moreau, 17, a senior at the high school, will perform as the baker’s wife. She watched while others rehearsed their lines.
“I’ve been in every play (director Anne Weatherbee) has done since I’ve been in high school,” Moreau said. “It’s a lot of fun. You meet all kinds of people.”
It doesn’t bother her anymore to perform in front of a crowd, she said.
Marcus Ryder, 17, also a senior, portrays the baker and admits he’s nervous to sing in front of an audience. The acting doesn’t bother him, he said, because he usually does one-act plays.
“Singing is not my strong point, so it’s interesting,” Ryder said.
Eleven-year-old Ian Jewett has performed in the community plays before, and this time is cast as one of three stepbrothers.
“I like it. It’s fun to go on stage, just to be there and in character. I like just like it,” Jewett said.
