LIVERMORE FALLS – Jay and SAD 36 school boards need to have emergency meetings within the next three days to approve a progress report on consolidation.
The deadline for submitting the information to the state is Saturday, Dec. 1.
The school consolidation planning committee made a little headway Tuesday on efforts to consolidate Jay, and Livermore and Livermore Falls school systems. Members got hung up on financial figures, indebtedness, essential programs and services overages, conditions of buildings and who pays what.
They adjourned their weekly meetings until the state gives more definitive guidelines on reorganization.
Before doing so, the committee reaffirmed a decision to have a 10-member school board for a consolidated system with each member having a vote.
The committee also voted to accept the facilities of both Jay School Department and SAD 36 to become the properties of the new school system. Voters will have the final say on this when they vote on whether to consolidate with each town.
SAD 36 properties include the high, middle and elementary schools, and the Cedar Street Center Learning Complex.
Jay’s properties include elementary, high and middle schools with retained use of the cafeteria for town functions.
It also includes the Jay Community Building with retained use by Jay for, but not limited to town government, civic and community organizations. It also includes the Jay bus garage, with retained use of the garage area as a wash station for town vehicles, Jay tennis courts with retained unlimited use by the public when not used by the regional school system, and athletic fields and gymnasiums with retained public use as currently provided.
Specific areas not included are the Head Start building, recreation land and all other areas outlined on a map.
The planning committee also voted to accept all personal property and moveable property, and all associated leases and licenses from each school district as part of a consolidated system.
