DEER ISLE (AP) – Authorities have recovered the body of a 65-year-old fisherman who disappeared Oct. 27 while hauling lobster traps near Weeds Point in Deer Isle.

The Maine Marine Patrol said the body of Byron Gross of Little Deer Isle was found Nov. 21 along the shore, near the causeway between Little Deer and Deer Isle. His boat, with its motor in gear and running, had been found on the nearby shore on the day he went missing.

Although the active search for Gross had ended, there have been intermittent searches by the marine patrol and local fishermen as well as occasional flyovers.

Lt. Alan Talbot said the death has been ruled a drowning.
