While the entire country expresses outrage at the New York Democratic governor’s effort to give illegal aliens driver’s licenses and at Democratic Sen. Hillary Clinton’s support of these efforts, Maine quietly continues to issue driver’s licenses to illegals who have absolutely no identification.

Democrats continue to support this policy and have denied all attempts by Maine Republicans to change it. Gov. John Baldacci secured this foolhardy policy with an executive order that prohibited state workers from asking about the immigration status of any person who applies for a license, welfare or any other state benefit.

Once illegal aliens have Maine licenses, they can then help themselves to the abundance of benefits available here in Maine. Subsidized housing, MaineCare, and a variety of social services are here for the taking. Worse, because of the motor-voter law, this license enables them to easily register to vote. It is also a virtual passport to every other state in the country.

Maine has become the No. 1 sanctuary state for illegals aliens. Why Maine Democrats continue to support this dangerous policy is beyond reason.
