This is in response to the guest column from JoAn Karkos (Nov. 18). The issue is not the book she is keeping; it’s about censorship. Who is she to tell other adults, parents and citizens what books they may or may not read?
While I may agree that some material may not be suited for younger children, it does not give her the right or self-righteousness to be parents’ or their children’s protector.
It is up to the staff at the library to make sure that objectionable books do not get into the hands of children unless approved by the parents. Why do some people think that it is their God-appointed right to tell others what they can or cannot read, do or think? Again, this is not about a book; it’s about censorship.
Parents should be responsible and raise their own children, and decide what is right for the children to read, do or think.
