AUBURN – Freshman center Britney Salley poured in a game-high 22 points as Central Maine Community College overwhelmed Vermont Tech 69-36 on Sunday.
The Mustangs allowed just five field goals in the first half and held a 38-12 lead at the break.
Tiffany Seams tallied 15 points, including three treys, and Katie Martin added nine points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
Shannon Leland led the Green Knights attack with 10 points while Eliza Wakefield and Stacy Corey scored eight apeice.
It was the third win in four games for the Mustangs (5-3), who improve their record to 4-1 in the Yankee Small College Conference.
UMF 67, Lasell 66
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – With no time remaining in regulation, University of Maine-Farmington’s Caitlyn Laflin kept cool under pressure and drained three free throws to cap a come-from-behind, 67-66 victory over Lasell College (1-4) in the consolation game of the Williams Holiday Classic.
Down by two points with eight seconds left on the clock, Laflin shot from beyond the arc and was fouled on the attempt just when the final buzzer sounded.
Laflin’s clutch shooting from the charity stripe earned her All-Tournament honors.
Men’s Basketball
Colby 83, UMF 77
FARMINGTON – Artie Cutrone had four points in the final 42 seconds and finished with 19 on the day to earn tournament most valuable player honors as the Colby College men’s basketball team took an 83-77 victory over University of Maine at Farmington on Sunday in the title game of the Colby Invitational.
Colby moves to 5-0 on the season, while UMF falls to 4-2. The game was played at Maine-Farmington because of a new court currently being put in place at Colby.
CMCC 75, Vermont Tech 60
AUBURN – Cam Angell drained a game-high 21 points and David LaBonte added 18 as the Central Maine Community College Mustangs upended Vermont Tech 75-60 at Kirk Hall Gynmasium on Sunday.
Stephen Benner was a force under the hoop, swiping 10 rebounds to compliment his 11 points as Steve Cyr and Tyler Smithgall combined for 11 assists.
A close game throughout, the Mustangs (7-6) pulled away at the end despite losing LaBonte to an ankle injury.
Garrett Crawford paced the Green Knights (5-3) with 17 points, including five three-pointers, and Justin Wilson contributed with 16.
