What if laughing could help you decrease your risk of disease? I bet you’d be laughing a lot. Well, that’s just the case here. When you laugh, it lowers your blood pressure, and increases the flow of oxygen in the blood, which, ultimately, increases the chances of healing. Laughter also decreases problem areas such as strokes, arthritis, ulcers and the speed of your heart beat and pulse. Plus, it reduces the risk of having any sort of heart disease!
First off, let me tell you about the mental well being of people with lots of humor. As you could probably guess, they have a whole lot less stress in their lives, and they have the ability to pay more attention to things then they normally would. Have you ever had a funny teacher? Did you notice that you learned more in that class than any other? Well, I’ll bet you did, because laughter also helps you learn by increasing your ability to retain information. People who laugh at themselves and other stressful situations have better self-esteem too. Laughing at yourself is said to be a good way of accepting who you are and respecting yourself and your well being. And did you know, when we use humor, we become more in touch with others, we talk more, touch more and make better eye contact and such.
Secondly, laughter increases energy. If you have more energy, you can do things that you would otherwise avoid. When you laugh, it tightens your stomach muscles, respiratory, facial, leg and back muscles. Laughing is said to massage and tone your intestinal organs, and their functions, it strengthens the muscles that work to hold abdominal organs in place in your body. I know from experience, that when I laugh a real good belly laugh, I can feel my stomach contracting. And I’ll bet you didn’t know that after a good hearty laugh, you can burn as much calories as if you were on a rowing machine or an exercise bike for several minutes!
I have learned much more about laughing than I bargained for when I picked up this article on the health benefits of laughing, and I’m glad. Now, every time I laugh with my friends, or even giggle by myself, I am helping my body even out all three sides of my health triangle. I think that everyone should laugh more! Everyday life can be so boring for some people, they need a good something to chuckle about. It would help our society so much if people thought more about these little things that could help them so much!
If some teenager picked up my article and read it through, I think that they would start trying to laugh, self-consciously, and it would help them, and everyone they hang around. When an Emo person read this, hopefully, it would help them cope with whatever problem they’re dealing with, and maybe get them thinking about how they can change someone’s life!
