Imagine that you are sitting home on Thanksgiving searching for food everywhere. You can’t find a thing to eat and you could go hungry. That thought was an inspiration for Philip W. Sugg Middle School Student Council members. No one should go hungry.

Philip W. Sugg Middle School Student Council hosted their annual Thanksgiving food collection for the Good Shepherd Food Bank. The student body was invited to bring non-perishable items to their classroom. Members of Student Council members brought boxes to store the goods for the collection. The food collection was held from November 1 through November 16.

There was a really great incentive for students to bring in the most amounts of items to school. The class with the most items donated received points toward an end of a year prize. Students took the initiative and brought numerous items in for the project.

It wasn’t about all the points. The students felt it was really about committing yourself to helping out a good cause. That’s how I think kids should feel. You never know when you’ll need the favor returned. The best part is it doesn’t take all the time in the world and helps a lot of people in the community that need an extra helping hand. Donations could have been as little as one thing. Collections soared to 10, 20, even items. The possibilities were endless. I am just so honored to cover this story for the Academic Advocate and be apart of a group of people coming together for a good cause. Thank you PWS Student Council for giving back in a time of need.
