PARIS – A Bridgton man remained in the Oxford County Jail on $10,000 bail on Wednesday on charges stemming from a domestic violence incident.
Shawn J. Fowler, 23, of 781 Kansas Road, was arrested Tuesday and charged with aggravated assault, assault, obstructing the report of a crime and criminal trespass. The alleged crimes were committed against a 27-year-old former girlfriend of Fowler.
According to a court affidavit filed by Detective Thomas Harriman of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Fowler entered a home in Otisfield on Saturday without the woman’s permission. Fowler is accusing of hitting her arm against a door during an argument and striking a cell phone out of her hand so she could not call police.
The affidavit states that Fowler also used a chokehold, repeatedly punched the woman in the back of the head, body-slammed her to the floor, and choked her until she passed out.
After unsuccessful attempts to locate Fowler, a complaint and arrest warrant were approved by the District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday. Harriman said he had prior knowledge that Fowler had an appointment in Portland, and arrested him there after approval by the Attorney General’s Office.
Deputy Christopher Davis responded to the incident and Harriman, who was recently made a domestic violence investigator with the department, conducted a follow-up investigation.
