LEE (AP) – Maine Gov. John Baldacci ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff today as another soldier killed in Iraq is laid to rest.

Officials say Army Sgt. Blair Emery’s body was being returned Thursday to his hometown of Lee where his funeral is planned at the Springfield Community Chapel. A larger memorial service was planned for Saturday at the Lee Academy Gym.

Emery’s family says he should’ve returned home at the end of October. Instead, his tour was extended by three months, and he was killed by an improvised explosive device on Nov. 30.

Emery is the second soldier from Lee to die in Iraq. In June, Sgt. Joel House, who was 22, was killed in a roadside bomb attack in Taji, 12 miles north of Baghdad. Both attended Lee Academy.
