AUGUSTA (AP) – The Coast Guard ended a fishing trip about 15 miles south of Cape Elizabeth, saying the vessel failed to comply with safety regulations.

Coast Guard officials in Boston said a boarding team from Cutter Jefferson Island, a 110-foot patrol boat based out of Portland, took the action at about 6 p.m. Friday after inspecting the Kimberly Marie, a 45-foot fishing vessel with a crew of two out of Cundy’s Harbor.

In a statement Saturday, officials said the vessel had a life raft with an expired hydrostatic release, an expired battery on the boat’s Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon and a radio that only had a range of two nautical miles.

Officials said the Kimberly Marie was headed back to port and must pass a Coast Guard inspection before getting under way again.
