GORHAM – Stacey Kent scored a season-high 21 points to lead national-ranked University of Southern Maine to an easy 81-57 victory over the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.
The victory was the 73rd consecutive home victory for the Huskies (7-0).
Becky Dixon added 11 points and Kaylie DeMillo had 10. Josalee Danieli of New Gloucester added eight points and season-high 11 rebounds.
Massachusetts 74, Maine 55
AMHERST, Mass. – Pam Rosanio scored 19 points and dished out six assists to lead Massachusetts to a 74-55 women’s basketball triumph over Maine.
The Minutemen (4-5) had 24 assists, 13 steals and forced 26 Maine turnovers. Tanna Ross led the Black Bears with 20 points, including six 3-pointers.
Maine’s five starters scored just 10 points, with three held scoreless.
MMA 61, Thomas 38
CASTINE – Maine Maritime forced 25 turnovers and rolled to a 61-38 victory over Thomas.
Elizabeth Cote led the Mariners with 21 points in 19 minutes of action. Lea McNary scored 11 for Thomas.
Bowdoin 72, Colby 49
WATERVILLE – Jill Anelauskas finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds as Bowdoin College took a 72-49 win over Colby College in women’s basketball action Saturday.
The Polar Bears (5-3) received 13 points and five rebounds from Alexa Kaubris of Rumford, while Leah Weis and Colleen Sweeney both had nine points.
Katie McCabe led the Mules (1-5) with nine points and 12 rebounds in the loss.
UNE 76, UMF 72
BIDDEFORD – The University of New England stormed back in the second half to secure a 76-72 triumph over the University of Maine at Farmington in women’s basketball action Saturay.
The Beavers (3-4) lit up from long range to establish a 12-point cushion at the break. Caitlyn Laflin recorded a game-high 20 points for Farmington on eight field goals, including a 3-pointer, and three free throws.
The Nor’easters (5-3) erased their halftime deficit by going to work right away in the second frame with a 17-3 run to take a 48-46 lead.
Marissa Hesketh and Alli Gamache combined for 23 points in the second half for the win.
Men’s basketball
Bowdoin 75, Colby 72
WATERVILLE – Off to its best start in eight seasons, Bowdoin opened a huge lead and held on for a 75-72 victory over Colby. Bowdoin (7-2) hit 22 of its first 30 shots en route to a 52-31 halftime lead.
Colby answered with a 22-8 run to open the second half and eventually closed to within one, but never got the lead.
St. Joseph’s 112, Daniel Webster 102
STANDISH – Ray Eatmon scored 17 points and his 21 rebounds came within one of the school record as St. Joseph’s outlasted Daniel Webster 112-102.
Six players reached double digits for the Monks (2-4), which shot 58 percent from the floor and held a 53-42 rebounding advantage.
Tim Jackson scored a game-high 24 points for Daniel Webster (3-3).
MMA 76, Thomas 64
CASTINE – Neil Stewart of Rangeley scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Maine Maritime to a 76-64 triumph over Thomas.
Andrew Duncanson led the Terriers (3-5) with 25 points, while Michael Burchill had 16.
UNE 70, UMF 57
BIDDEFORD – Isaac Stickney and Johnnie Jefferson combined for 26 points and 19 rebounds to lead University of New England to a 70-57 triumph over Maine-Farmington.
UNE (4-4) took command with a 10-2 run to close the first half and a 15-3 spurt to open the second half.
Sean Fry led UMF (4-3) with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
UMass-Dartmouth 58, USM 50
GORHAM – Senior forward Cory Tynes scored a game-high 16 points to lead the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth to a 58-50 victory over the University of Southern Maine in LEC men’s basketball action Saturday.
Tynes was one of two Corsair (7-0) players to reach double-digits in scoring. Tynes was 8-for-17, while sophomore guard Tyler Turtoro chipped in with 11 points.
Senior forward Ian Hebert of New Gloucester recorded a double-double for the Huskies (2-5) with 14 points and 14 rebounds, both career-high totals.
Florida State 95, Maine 55
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State set a school record with 20 3-pointers in a 95-55 thrashing of Maine.
The Seminoles (9-2) jumped out to a 42-20 advantage by halftime, thanks to a 60-percent performance beyond the arc. Isaiah Swann led the hosts with 22 points, including six treys. Former Brunswick standout Ralph Mims scored scored nine points on 3-for-3 shooting from 3-point territory.
Brian Andre led Maine (4-5) with 13 points and six rebounds. Auburn freshman Troy Barnies had eight points in a starting role.
