LEWISTON – The Stanton Bird Club is sponsoring the last trip in the guided bird walk series on Wednesday, Dec. 19. The walking and bird-watching trip will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery along the Androscoggin River.
Participants will be scanning the skies, the water, the trees and the open spaces for sightings of bald eagles, common and hooded mergansers, black-capped chickadees, tufted titmice, white-breasted nuthatches, blue jays, downy or hairy woodpeckers, red-tailed or sharp-shinned hawks, pileated woodpeckers and winter finches, such as pine grosbeaks, evening grosbeaks and common redpolls.
The trip will begin at 8 a.m. at Staples in the Promenade Mall, East Avenue, to carpool or caravan to the cemetery.
If it is snowing at 7 a.m. and predicted to continue through 10 a.m., the trip will be canceled. Those going should bring binoculars and dress for the weather and snowy conditions on the ground.
