Shriners Hospital board member named

LEWISTON – Kora Shriners Potentate Thomas Nason has announced the appointment of John R. Knox of Windham as an associate member of the board of governors for the Boston Shriners Hospital. The board oversees and directs the operations of the Shriners Burns Center for Children in Boston, which provides burn treatment and emergency care for children.

Knox is a member and officer of Kora Shriners, serving as donor relations chairman for the past two years, and is active in Masonic groups throughout southern Maine. He and his wife, Becky, reside in Windham and have three children, Laurie, Jeffrey and Kathryn, and four grandchildren.

The Shriners support a network of 22 orthopedic and burn treatment hospitals across North America, and provide care to children up to age 18 at no charge. Eligibility for care is not based on financial need or relationship to a Shriner.

Locally, the annual Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic, an all-star football game of high school seniors, helps raise money for the Kora Transportation Fund to assist families with transportation costs to the Shriner hospitals in Boston and Springfield.

Anyone who knows of a child the hospitals might be able to help should call the toll-free patient referral line at 800-237-5055 or the Kora office at 782-6831. Kora Shriners represent Shriners from Kittery to Skowhegan. For more information, visit www.KoraShriners.org.
