WELD – Residents are scheduled to consider a request to reopen about 2.1 miles of Byron Road for winter maintenance at a special town meeting Thursday.

The Byron Road, also known as No. 6 Road, leads to the Tumbledown area. It hasn’t been maintained for plowing, sanding and snow removal by the town for about 10 years, Selectman Nancy Stowell said.

The request is to reopen the road from West Side Road to 448 Byron Road, where the driveway to the residence of Matt and Lisa McGuire is located, just beyond Morgan Road.

This is the second winter that the couple has lived on the road, Stowell said.

Selectmen are recommending that voters approve the request.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, in the multipurpose room at the town office.

The room will open at 6:30 p.m. to register new voters.
