PARIS – A 26-year-old Newry man who police say threatened last October to kill his parents and sisters and cut their heads off has been indicted by an Oxford County grand jury.

Jeremy Lee Cowin, 26, of Branch Road was indicted on five counts Wednesday including terrorizing, criminal threatening, assault, obstructing the report of a crime or injury, refusing to submit to an arrest and disorderly conduct.

Cowin, who is being held in Oxford County jail, was one of 26 people the Oxford County grand jury indicted on charges ranging from manslaughter to criminal mischief.

Cowin was arrested Oct. 11 at the Branch Street home he shared with his parents after he allegedly created a “hostage situation,” police said. No one was hurt in the incident in which police say he assaulted his mother, collected knives in the house and took out the phones. Cowin was restrained after a family member was able to get to a phone and call for help, but police had to shoot Cowin twice with an electric shock gun to calm him down while taking him to jail in Paris.

In other indictments, Joshua Lovell, 19, of Whitman Street in Norway was indicted on attempted gross sexual and unlawful sexual contact charges after he allegedly had sexual contact with a teenage girl.

The Norway man was arrested Oct. 9 after the mother of a 15-year-old girl reported her daughter had been raped. Lovell has contended the sexual acts with the girl were consensual, according to the affidavit.

Mark Tardiff Jr. of Eastman Hill Road in Porter was indicted on charges of manslaughter, two counts of criminal operating under the influence and furnishing liquor to a minor. Tardiff was the driver of a car that crashed on July 4 in Porter, causing the death of Bianka Cousins.

Scott Benjamin Pike, 24, of Spruce Street, Rumford, was indicted on a charge of receiving a stolen sports utility vehicle in Andover on or about Dec. 7.
