LIVERMORE FALLS – A fire that began in an outlet behind an ice cream cooler closed Pike’s Corner Oasis on routes 133 and 106 briefly Friday, but caused little damage.

Julie Taylor of Livermore Falls, a breakfast cook at the store, said she was helping a customer when she smelled the fire, but couldn’t see it.

Taylor said smoke could then be seen and flames started shooting upward.

Two customers put the fire out using a fire extinguisher, she said.

Taylor stood outside the store as firefighters used an exhaust fan to push smoke from the building.

Livermore Falls firefighter Jim Leclerc said the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction.

The store was reopened for business by early Friday afternoon.
