RUMFORD – Friends of the Rumford Library will show “The Cameraman,” one of the last silent films of Buster Keaton, at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11.
In this 1928 romantic comedy, Keaton plays a Manhattan tintype street photographer trying to impress the woman of his dreams by becoming a newsreel cameraman.
Outdated equipment and general bad luck result in the would-be photojournalist having to escape multiple dangers through acrobatic stunts. In one of the film’s classic moments, photographer and camera get buried under the tickertape as Keaton tries to record a parade.
Named to the National Film Registry in 2005, “The Cameraman” has been praised for its physical comedy and unexpected twists as the plot progresses.
The film, which runs 75 minutes, will be shown in the public room of the library (pleae use side entrance).
Refreshments and the film are free.
