AUBURN – Daniel W.J. Irvine Jr., 58, of Town Farm Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, in Auburn following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Bath on July 12, 1949, the son of Daniel W.J. Sr. and Joyce Bartlett Irvine. He attended local schools. He enlisted and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and was responsible for saving the lives of many of his fellow soldiers during an attack on their base camp.

On July 20, 1997, he married Nancy A. Trask after a more than 10-year courtship. He worked most of his life in the construction business building, welding and painting until he was forced to retire due to illness. In his spare time he enjoyed playing on the computer and was a history buff, and he also enjoyed watching boxing. His greatest love was spent surrounded by his family and friends. He was also a member of the Buckfield American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 10 years; a son, Denny Irvine, who is currently serving in the United States Armed Forces; a stepdaughter, Selena Canney of Lewiston; stepson, Robert Canney of Lewiston; granddaughter, Lexi Irvine of Georgia.; two stepgrandchildren, Christie and Joshua Samson of Lewiston; two sisters, Miriam Irvine Allen and Millie Jewett, both of Bath; a stepbrother, Greg Irvine of Arizona; two special friends, Mike Reilly of Windham and Don Bartlett of Frenchville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Kyle Irvine.
