PARIS – A Waterford man pleaded not guilty Thursday to violating conditions of release put on him after his arrest on a charge of armed robbery.

Doug R. Goins, 48, of 174 Bear Pond Road is charged with Class C violating conditions of release because he had been granted preconviction bail for a crime punishable by one year or more in prison. Assistant District Attorney Joe O’Connor said in Oxford County Superior Court that armed robbery is a Class A felony.

Goins was arrested in July after allegedly holding a man at gunpoint and stealing the painkiller methadone from him. The new charge stems from an arrest later in the month after a search of Goins’ residence turned up firearms.

According to an affidavit by Trooper Adam Fillebrown of the Maine State Police, Goins had 16- and .410-gauge shotguns as well as a .22-caliber rifle in his home. According to the affidavit, Goins admitted that the weapons were in the residence and said he was unaware that his conditions prohibited him from having firearms.

After failing to appear in court in September, Goins was arrested Dec. 16 and held on $25,000 bail.

Attorney William Cote was standing in for attorney Sarah Glynn on Thursday. Justice Carl Bradford kept bail conditions in place, but said Glynn may ask for a review of bail.

Goins remained at the Oxford County Jail on Friday evening. He listed his address as 405 Mockingbird Lane, Wagner, Okla., a jail officer said, explaining he had been living at his sister’s home on Bear Pond Road.
