WOODSTOCK – On Thursday, a small contingent of voters unanimously approved spending $28,000 from surplus to cover an overdraft in the road account.

“The overdraft comes from heavy road damage caused during the rains of last April and July, Town Manager Vern Maxfield said. “We had to spend unexpected funds on the Farnum/Milton Roads and Curtis Hill to repair storm damage and improve drainage so we won’t have the damage repeated next year. So I decided I would like to take care of the overdraft before we begin finalizing our budget for 2008.”

“It’s not always easy to justify using extra money to cover an overdraft,” he said, “but I think we have a lot to show for it with the work that was done on those roads.”

Maxfield reminded residents that the next selectmen’s meeting will be held Jan. 8 because the first Tuesday of the month is New Year’s Day.
