ESTERO, Fla. – Jonathan Maniff and Scott Campbell scored two goals apiece to lead the University of Massachusetts at Lowell to a 6-0 triumph over the University of Maine in the championship game of the 2007 Florida College Hockey Classic on Saturday.

The River Hawks took a 3-0 lead at 11:46 of the second period when Patrick Cey scored on an add-man rush. Korey Falite and Maniff notched assists on the goal.

Goalie Ben Bishop made 14 saves for the Black Bears (6-8-2), before yielding to Dave Wilson who finished with five saves in 16:30 of play.

After the game, Simon Danis-Pepin and Billy Ryan were each named to the 2007 Florida College Hockey Classic All-Tournament team from the Maine squad.

Men’s basketball

Colby 75, Rensselaer 58

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Senior captain Mark Gaudet scored a game-high 21 points as Colby College grabbed a 75-58 win over Rensselaer in men’s basketball action Saturday.

Gaudet shot 7-for-11 from the field, including 3-for-5 from three-point range, and was perfect with four points from the foul line for the Mules (7-2). Artie Cutrone added 18 points and five rebounds, while Adam Choice finished with 14 points, including a pair of treys.

Sam Simmons guided the Engineers (6-4) with eight points and six rebounds.

Occidental 69, USM 46

IRVINE, Calif. – Senior guard Connor Whitman and junior guard Huston Conti combined to score 35 points and lead Occidental College to a 69-46 victory over the University of Southern Maine in men’s basketball action Saturday.

Whitman scored 18 points to lead the Tigers (7-2), while Conti added 17 points in the contest.

Senior forward Drew Coppenrath led the Huskies (3-7) with team-high totals of 13 points and eight rebounds.

Southern Maine led early in the contest with a 5-4 advantage. But it was the only time the Huskies led as they struggled offensively, shooting just 27.8 percent (15-for-54).
