Rep. Briggs sworn in to 123rd Legislature
AUGUSTA – State Rep. Sheryl Briggs, D-Mexico, was sworn in as the state Legislator for District 93 by Gov. John Baldacci at a State House ceremony on Jan. 2. Briggs was elected by voters in November to fill the seat vacated by the resignation of Randy Hotham.
“I couldn’t be more excited or honored,” Briggs said. “I can’t thank the residents of District 93 enough for giving me this opportunity to serve them, and I will work hard to make sure that their interests are represented in Augusta.”
In addition to being sworn in, Briggs was appointed to the Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
“This appointment is very exciting because it deals with issues that are particularly important to our region,” Briggs said. “I am ready to get to work.”
Briggs has already signed on as cosponsor of several bills submitted for consideration this session.
Briggs is a graduate of Mexico High School and works for the town of Mexico. She has been active in local and county government for the past several years.
House District 93 is made up of the towns of Carthage, Canton, Dixfield, Mexico and Peru. Jan. 2 was the first day of the second session of the 123rd Legislature.
