AUBURN – An Auburn woman was seriously injured in a car crash Thursday afternoon when police said she pulled her vehicle out in front of another car traveling on Turner Street.

Claire Madore, 66, of Auburn was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with several broken bones. She remained in the intensive care unit there Thursday afternoon, police said.

The driver of the other car, Megan Chesley, 21, of Winthrop was not injured.

Auburn police said Madore pulled out of the Ja Lynne Trailer Park and in front of Chesley’s Chevrolet Impala traveling south of Turner Street. Chesley swerved to avoid Madore, but couldn’t get completely around the Ford Focus, police said. The front passenger side of Chesley’s car collided with the front of Madore’s car, sending Chesley off the road, through a snowbank and into a grove of trees, where it stopped.

Madore was ejected from her car through the driver’s side window. Police did not believe she was wearing a seat belt.

Police said alcohol, speed and weather and road conditions were not factors.

“It appears, based on our investigation and the witnesses, it was a driver inattention thing where she probably thought the road was clear and she pulled out, and she just pulled right out in front of someone,” Sgt. Eric Audette said.

He estimated the damage to Madore’s car at $3,000 to $4,000. He estimated the damage to Chesley’s car to be $3,000.
