I never take for granted my food, clothing, shelter and safety, thinking of the many people in Lewiston and Auburn who are homeless.
Imagine any night, especially frigid winter evenings, shelters filled to capacity, being turned away, often insufficiently clothed, having to be in perpetual motion, hoping to make it through.
In this land of plenty, there is no excuse.
Some of the unused Twin City buildings would serve well as shelters.
There is an aboriginal saying, “We wear 20 percent of our clothes 80 percent of the time.”
I donate to the free clothing closets knowing I’m helping someone.
I have volunteered serving lunch and supper at a shelter, and everyone was beyond being courteous, thankful and grateful.
