AFC Championship
Chargers at Patriots
3 p.m., Sunday, CBS
I didn’t think it was possible, but CBS has now surpassed FOX in VAQ (Viewer Annoyance Quotient). Here’s how a typical CBS football telecast starts – an introductory montage, face time for Nantz and Simms, commercials, a brief word from Nantz that the big game is coming up, commercials, another introductory montage, kickoff, score on opening drive, commercials, kickoff, commercials. And they repeat virtually the same procedure in the second half. Oh, and how about during the Chargers/Colts game last week when they broke away for commercial before showing a crucial replay? How many times have they gone away from what’s happening on the field for a commercial or a pre-taped segment or some other production? I can think of at least two occasions when there has been an injured player on the field, and they’ve completely ignored it so they can give their announcers more face time. How come Congress isn’t holding hearings on this?
