CLEVELAND – Cleveland’s new Arena Football League team won’t kick off until March, but the wealthy owner of the Gladiators already has made a spectacular fumble – at the altar.
When it came time for Jim Ferraro to say “I do” during his wedding vows Friday in Miami, he stunned the bride by saying that he didn’t, or at least wouldn’t at that moment.
Now Ferarro’s trying to woo Patricia Delinois back. But it’s a tough sell.
She heard the collective gasp of 75 jet-setting guests as Ferraro stopped the wedding. Delinois’ sister, Ingrid Long, said she unfurled a torrent of anger at Ferraro, labeling him a snake.
Just like that, a $100,000 fairy-tale wedding at the Vanderbilt Mansion on Fisher Island – an oasis for the rich and famous – turned into a social debacle.
It’s been the talk of southeast Florida ever since. A Miami Herald headline dubbed Ferraro the “walk away groom.”
Ferraro is a partner in the wildly successful legal practice of Kelley and Ferraro. Michael Kelley and Ferraro each made a fortune through litigating asbestos claims.
Ferraro and Delinois – CEO of Century 21 Premier Elite Realty in Coral Gables, Fla. – began dating about five years ago.
As the couple stood to take their vows, it appeared the knot would finally be tied.
Delinois, 44, wore an off-white beaded gown. Ferraro, 50, wore a black tuxedo as they approached the altar.
Then, as Ferraro tells it, the pastor asked a deal-breaker: Do you vow to put Patricia over all other persons in your life – your parents, your children?
Ferraro paused. He told Delinois and the crowd that he loved her but that he could not go forward with the wedding.
In the days since the wedding, Ferraro has called, text-messaged and sent flowers to Delinois, but she hasn’t wanted to talk.
Ferraro said he’ll be ready some day.
“This will probably have a happy ending, it’s just not now.”
