FARMINGTON – A Wilton man was freed on bail Friday, a day after he was charged with offering to pay a girl $50 for sex and then forcing himself on her after she refused. The girl struck him in the groin and reported the incident, according to court records.
Timothy Goodwin, 42, of 64 Weld Road was arrested by Wilton Police Lt. Richard Caton Thursday on charges of gross sexual assault and aggravated promotion of prostitution following an investigation of the Jan. 5 incident. A parent reported it to police earlier this week, Chief Dennis Brown said Friday.
Goodwin made his first appearance before Judge Valerie Stanfill in Franklin County Superior Court on Friday. Bail was set at $2,500 cash for the pipefitter, who is charged with assault and unlawful sexual touching.
Attempts to reach Goodwin on Friday afternoon, after he made bail, were unsuccessful.
His attorney, Woody Hanstein, however, said “When all the evidence is known, the state will realize a mistake has been made.”
“There’s more to this case than what the police have been told,” Hanstein said. “Some people will keep an open mind, but unfortunately when someone is innocent, all they can do is state that fact.”
According to court records, Goodwin, who is known by the girl, and another snowmobiler stopped at her home Jan. 5. While a parent was in another room, Goodwin went to the girl’s room and knocked.
Not knowing it was Goodwin, she said to come in, but then told him to leave when he entered. He waved a $50 bill and told her that she knew what he wanted. She again told him to leave, records state.
He then grabbed her and forced her onto the bed where he started to undo her clothing and touch her. When he stood to unzip his clothing, she hit him in the groin and he fell to the floor, the record stated.
She then left the room and reported the crime later.
He is scheduled to appear in court April 28. Bail conditions include no alcohol or drugs, no contact with the girl or anyone under the age of 18, except his children when in the presence of their mother or grandparent.
