OXFORD – It’s up to the public’s taste buds to decide who makes the best pizza in town at today’s pizza contest from noon to 2 p.m. at the Station House Community Center.
Oxford Recreation Department Chairwoman Pam Lovely said Friday that the event benefits the department through donations at the door. They got the idea from a similar contest in Lewiston awhile back.
“It will be a fun thing and something to get the community involved,” Lovely said. “We’ve got 15 places so far, in our first year, so I’m pleased to have that … It will be fun and exciting and, hopefully, we’ll have lines of people.”
Participating stores will bring their pizza entries to the center. Then, it’s up to the public to taste each one and decide which is the best overall pizza. The winner will get a wall plaque and bragging rights. Certificates also will be awarded.
Lovely said pizzas are expected to arrive at 11:45 a.m., but taste-testing starts at noon.
