FARMINGTON – A fish chowder lunch will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at the Fairbanks Union Church.

Batik class

TURNER – The batiking/watercolor on rice paper class, sponsored by SAD 52 River Valley Adult and Community Education, will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Leavitt Area High School.

Batiking is a process of layering wax with watercolor paint. The patterns, paint and rice paper will be provided. Call the Adult Ed office at 225-3478 to register or for information.

Crafts meeting

AVON – The Opportunity Center of North Franklin County will host the Maine Crafts Association, represented by Lynn Thompson, be at the Avon Town Hall at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27.

Thompson will explain how the association works, what they can do for crafters and entrepreneurs, then answer questions.

Those interested in turning creative talents into full or part-time employment are invited to attend.

Donations sought

PHILLIPS – Phillips Public Library, Main Street, is accepting donations of new or gently used articles for the 10th annual Penny Sale Auction to be held Saturday, March 8.

Items may be dropped off. To arrange for pick-up, call 639-4296.

Library hours are Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Film to be aired

FARMINGTON – The film “Salud!,” directed by Connie Field, will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at the University of Maine at Farmington ED Center, room 114, corner of High and South streets.

Released a few months ago, the film looks at health care Cuban style, especially the story of Cuban health workers abroad – 30,000 physicians in almost 70 countries. It reports also on Cuba’s achievement in providing medical education for young people throughout the world in their own countries and in Cuba.
