Band benefit

AUBURN – The Intergalactic Yurt Band will do a benefit concert on Saturday, Jan. 26, at Danville Junction Grange. They will play from 7 to 8:15 p.m., and proceeds will be given to the grange to help with repairs.

Requested will be a $5 donation for admittance. Free pie and coffee will be served at the close of the concert. The public is invited.

Rainbow to install

AUBURN – The Lewiston Assembly 14, International Order of Rainbow for Girls, will hold installation of officers at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Auburn Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St.

The installation will be semi-public, and members of local Masonic lodges and Eastern Star chapters are invited.

Art club program

AUBURN – The Auburn Art Club will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at the High Street Congregational Church. Hostesses will be Joan Libby, Donna Sweetser, Elaine Sylvester and Louise Reynolds.

Guest will be Melanie Lee, who has been playing the Celtic harp for eight years.

She has studied with Deborah Friou of Brunswick and Wendy Stewart in Scotland. In 2005 she became certified as a music practitioner, having completed the Music for Healing and Transitions Program. She does volunteer work at the Androscoggin Hospice House, where she shares her musical talent with patients.

In 2003 she founded the Maine Harp Circle, an informal gathering of local harp players who get together to play music and share their love of the Celtic harp.

In addition, Lee teaches fourth grade in Auburn and has a master’s degree in literacy.

Sweetheart dance

PARIS – The Swinging Bears Square Dance Club will hold a Sweetheart Dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Oxford Hills Middle School, Pine Street, South Paris. Walt Bull will call mainstream and plus for the square dancing. John Heign will cue for the round dancing.

Cost is $10 a couple, $5 single. Refreshments will be available at intermission. Nondancers are invited to attend at no charge.
