Dryland
For the first time in many years the first ski practice will actually be on snow. In the past the lack of snow was pretty frustrating for Nordic and Alpine skiers, but this year things are going to be different. Last year both Alpine and Nordic skiing had an amazing season, but the lack of snow was pretty frustrating for them. Nordic Skier, Lt Sierra said “although dry land training is very painful, its gets us into shape and makes us the champions we have been.” Alpine skiers aren’t too thrilled about dry land training either.
Zach Renaud is an alpine skier and he agrees as well that they dry land training is annoying “because you have to do a lot of work and focus on what you have to do after.” Renaud, Kelson, and Sierra believe that all the dry land training brings everyone closer as a team, because “we are all trying our hardest even without snow, we are working together and toughing it out,” says Kelson. One big goal on everyone’s mind is to win states. “I want states again, and I want to contribute to that. We have already become a dynasty, but know we want a legacy. “
Alpine
The Alpine team may have not “had the exact results in the state championship, but all the teams we raced against knew that we were contenders,” said Karly Eretzian, Alpine head coach. The Alpine team this year is looking for a new assistant coach, but Karly Eretzian is still the head coach. Her goal for this years team is to have them all close nit, and “help each other strive for the best everyone can do.” Eretzian can’t wait to see the new leaders and how they impact their team. Last year the Alpine team “lost four senior girls, and two senior boys.
Thats a huge number for a ski team,” says Eretzian. When asked what she plans on doing differently she replied, “I don’t really give away my surprises,” so we will just have to see when the season comes. Mount Blue has always been competition for the Alpine team and this year is EL can get together a Nordic team they will definitely become competition.
Nordic
Mr. Williamson, the Nordic skiing head coach said this season will be a similar one to last years, but they “will still have to work hard hard, maybe ever harder, you always have to do more than what you have done.” This year will be Mr. Williamson’s first full year of being head coach of the Nordic team, last year he finished off the year as head coach. He isn’t going to change really anything, because there is “no need to change things when you already have success.”
The assistant coach is going to be Ms. Buotte. Buotte has been skiing since she was three years old. She has never coached high school students before, but she is excited about it. The upcoming freshmen are going to contribute fantastically to the team. With all their “energy and work from the middle school, they will be a huge addition, and its always nice to have new faces and styles,” said Williamson. For the boys Nordic team Mt Blue is going to be big competition, and now that Greeley is class A, they are in the picture. Maranacook will be challenging for the KVAC’s as well.
